		<description>Dear Donna,

I enjoyed the article very much, but wish to point out that mercury has not been banned from vaccines. If you look at the U.S. FDA's website, fda.org, and and go to "Table 3", it lists the thimerosal and mercury content of every vaccine manufactured. As you know, these vaccines are shipped worldwide. Also, in July of 2007, the vaccine makers admitted before a congressional hearing in the USA that they have secretly been using the thimerosal as a "rinsing agent" for the vats used to make vaccines, thus ensuring that even the vaccines labeled "preservative free", have mercury content. I felt this was an important error that you needed to be aware of, as you reach so many people with your books and articles. Love your work and your website!

Respectfully,

<description>Yes, I've taken them, but I had no secretory IgA (one type of primary immune deficiency) which meant no messenger to tell my white cells what bugs I had nor any messenger in the gut to tell the liver or pancreas which enzymes to send re foods eaten.

So fact is its more sensible to cut the floride toothpaste corroding the gut and exaccerbating salicylate toxicity and associated inflammation that leads to impaired digestion and undigested proteins messing brain chemistry which trigger the psychiatric co-morbidity loop and make oxidative stress a fait a compli.

Then check the Sig IgA and if there is none get on the immune boosters so one can produce ONES OWN enzymes.

Why be a slaved to buying expensive enzyme products if there are mechanisms by which one can get one's own non-production into production.

For more info, see The Jumbled Jigsaw.

<description>Donna, I'm wondering if you've ever tried taking digestive enzymes to help your body process the "gook" that the world throws at us? I keep reading about them but want to learn more before trying them.

PS I love ALL of your books!!</description>

<description>Very interesting article. I am very interested in biology and nutrition and the environment. Thank you very mu7ch for bring up this important issue into awareness. I work on intergrating various things to balance my life--intergration of body, mind, and spirit as basic guideline.

<description>It's interesting that you've found a possible link between environmental chemicals (and damage to the environment) and autism. I was diagnosed before I moved into an industrial slum - I wonder if the environment of living behind a major tyre factory had something to do with increasing my autism. It did have detrimental effects to my general physical health as well - and what you mention about salicylates - I have problems sometimes digesting "natural" fruit and vegetables and almost always rely on prepackaged and frozen products which seem to work better with my system.

A strange piece of possible evidence relating to environmental factors and autism is that while I have moved away from my childhood home behind the tyre factory, I have noticed a marked increase in my autism. I was generally unaffected by some of the more negative aspects of autism perhaps because I'd developed a tolerance for chemicals while living in a toxic area, but now, in a relatively unpolluted area I have had more problems (typically connecting with others and feeling misunderstood - you know the drill too).

Off topic, I'm curious about a similar link we have with other people in our heads - you mention compulsive disorders - I am a student of mental health and I seem to be seeing links with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, a version of Disassociative Identity Disorder and autism linked together in some individuals (although I don't think of autism as a disorder per se and I believe the other two can be worked out once understanding and insight can be reached).

It's also good to see that there are autistic authors like myself out there - I remember reading once that it was supposed that "the autistic mind cannot comprehend the artistic process" and I thought "What a load!" I have known some great graphical artists that are autistic and I am glad that others can express themselves in the written word - I think, coming from an observer point of view, that we have a unique perception of the human condition to share with others.

<description>As someone who lives with severe and disabling MCS (multiple chemical sensitivities) and suffer neurological and behavioral symptoms from exposures that have become more pronounced lately, I have become much more interested in learning about autism. What a surprise it was to discover so many similarities. When I am able to stay away from chemical exposures to things like fabric softeners, scented laundry detergents, perfumes colognes and air fresheners (amongst other things like paints and pesticides, formaldehyde and road or roofing tars) I am able to function quite well. When I come into contact with the things I mentioned (and other chemicals) my ability to walk, speak, relate, understand can all become severely impaired. At these times, I could very definately add another diagnosis to the MCS and Fibromyalgia - ASD.
I am so glad that you are bringing attention to these connections, as I am convinced there is one, and have been dismayed that there is almost no mention of this in pretty well everything I've read on the subject. Total load, body burden, when and where a person encounters the exposures even pre and post birth, can all have unknown and unexpected consequences. There are just far too many inadequately tested chemicals in our daily lives now. The only study I've found connecting daily exposures to symptoms is a study by Karen Slimak where kids were undiagnosed after the elimination of voc's. Fascinating study:
Reduction of autistic traits following dietary intervention and elimination
of exposure to environmental substances
