Autism-Spectrum Employment (Sept) – can you help?

 Got It by Donna Williams Over on http://www.auties.org we have many people on the autism spectrum worldwide who are seeking work. Some are looking for work experience, some are looking for jobs but aren’t ready for full time. Some are ready for full time work. Some (sometimes because they are unable to get or sustain work in the mainstream workforce) have started small businesses with the skills they have or the goods

they produce or a range of them, a ‘portfolio’. Each month, I feature the listings of five of these people and see if you people out there can’t help or at least pass on their information to someone in need of their skills, services or goods. Let’s pull together and make autism-employment a wider reality. Let’s help make their efforts at self employment more sustainable because it won’t work without you. Let’s at least look at some of these potential employees, what they have to offer.

I’m a Melbourne-based 20-year-old Aspie with a creative streak that includes crocheting and sewing my own designs.
I am a passionate advocate of Autistic Rights, and enjoy relating to children, having some experience assisting an autistic child in a group setting.
I adore cats, and would be interested in finding out if I can like dogs too!
I have some ability in Auslan (Australian Sign Language) having studied it for a year at university.
I am also quite pedantic and would be happy to proof-read articles or work in a library shelving books.

I am a freelance writer and have written a number of paid publications and am willing/able to edit pre-publication written works for other people on the spectrum.
I do photography and am happy to do portrait photography of people on the spectrum.
I do pet-sitting, some pet-grooming and dog-walking.
I have a strong interest in mime and would be interested in promotions work at autism-related and autie-friendly events.
I would welcome further work experience/apprenticeship to further develop my skills as a mime artist.
I am interested in the possibility of working in with other autie-spectrum performers in my area (Seymour, Connecticut).
I can offer a strong work ethic and tenacity and commitment to whatever task I am given.
