Over on http://www.auties.org we have many people on the autism spectrum worldwide who are seeking work. Some are looking for work experience, some are looking for jobs but aren’t ready for full time. Some are ready for full time work. Some (sometimes because they are unable to get or sustain work in the mainstream workforce) have started small businesses with the skills they have or the goods

they produce or a range of them, a ‘portfolio’. Each month, I feature the listings of five of these people and see if you people out there can’t help or at least pass on their information to someone in need of their skills, services or goods. Let’s pull together and make autism-employment a wider reality. Let’s help make their efforts at self employment more sustainable because it won’t work without you. Let’s at least look at some of these potential employees, what they have to offer.

This month’s featured Autism-Spectrum workers are:

AUSTRALIA (Melbourne)

Kieran, Stuart, Earl – GARDENERS.

The following Melbourne-based garden-laborers are available for casual gardening work including weeding, barrowing, digging, tidying & assisting with landscaping work.  They all have some experience in this work and I can personally recommend them as capable workers in this type of work.  They all have either Aspergers or HFA and require clear, visual, autism-friendly instruction on a task by task basis and can work through a list of tasks which have been demonstrated for them.  In return they currently earn an affordable wage of $15 per hour for their work.  Here’s their info:

USA (Michigan)

Ryan McReynolds

I am a person who is on the Spectrum.
I currently live in Birch Run, Michigan but I am moving to the Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti area asap
I write and record my own songs and I film videos with my Video Camera as well (I nowadays burn Home Movies onto DVD)
I have performed a couple of Music gigs and I am looking to do some more gigs.
As far as Videotaping so far I have not gone for the idea of actually being hired to film although I did film a couple of Weddings in 1996 and a couple of Weddings in 2005 (several DVD copies were made of the ones from 2005 and passed around to people who wanted copies and the 1996 ones were finally placed on DVD for the 1st time ever).

I am a 4th year college student. I love to organize things. I have taken a class in Accounting. I learned about Balance Sheets, Income Statements, and Retained Earnings Statements. I took computer classes on Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Programming. I also love making stuff and making greeting cards. For “Pets and Animals,” I do some pet sitting (cats) and I also have a cat. I took a class in Human Resource Issues (I learned about job descriptions and made a portfolio about that and I learned about compensation and benefits). I am currently taking Staffing and Performance Appraisal (I am learning about performance appraisal forms and progressive discipline forms). I volunteered in a library and I am currently working at my dad’s office.
