Ku Klux Klan in Australia – Mr Howard, aren’t you interested in terrorists?

August12

Air by Donna Williams This week a group of so called Ku Klux Klan in Australia, threatened to bash up Aboriginal children out after dark in Lismore.

The presence of this morally ill US import with its 400 or so followers makes me wonder how our government can abuse the word ‘terrorist’ to support superpowers in the wholesale slaughter of civillians overseas yet ignore terrorists like these free to spread moral and spiritual illness in Australian society. The threats this group has made are more than racism, they are psychological and emotional abuse, sanctioned by our own racist government who fails to apply the word terrorist to those who threaten to bash Aboriginal children on the Australian streets of their own ancestory.

Be proud to be Australian?

How can I be proud if this is what it is to be a non-indigenous Australian, to be someone who stands by silently and reads this as just one more news story. It is more than that. It is a sickening hypocrisy, a scream unheard by a racist government, it is a story many white people in this country will ignore because they have never met, befriended or been related to indigenous people so think this is not about themselves.

I live in a country with a Prime Minister who fails to recognise Aboriginal rights or health issues and on so many occasions demonstrates a bias towards an outdated ‘white Australia’ many of us have moved on from, embracing diversity and a sense of ourselves as citizens of the world.

I can’t help but feel this form of ‘representation’ inadvertently allows white supremicists to imagine that they have some kind of place in this country and it revolts me how any group narcissistically imagines itself higher than those of any other. White Australians too often sit back like our prime minister as if the racism facing Aboriginal people is ‘not our problem’. It is Australia’s problem, a cancer of the soul that we risk becoming infected with and which leads to a systemic ignorance, a pervasive narcissistic superiority and a hatred that manifests as a progressively soul-deep ugliness no amount of bravado can wash away
