Do Cats Make Friends?
I was reflecting on what it takes for me to be friends. I’m friendly to all and friends with far fewer.
Sometimes someone will ask what it takes for me to want to be friends especially because I’m very solitary and autonomous.
So, for what its worth, here’s my basics:
- Â Â Â honour me with trust
- Â Â Â keep clear boundaries
- Â Â Â always have the guts to ask
- Â Â Â I don’t hold hands
- Â Â Â I don’t wipe butts
- Â Â Â we carry our own baggage
- Â Â Â no emotional blackmail
- Â Â Â don’t press buttons
- Â Â Â oh, and laughter doesn’t hurt a bit.

Hi Donna,
I liken the making of true friendships to that of the innate observations, intuition, loyalty and perception of cats.
True friendships between people (and animals :)) happen when the ‘chemistry’ is right; when there is an unsaid respect, understanding and caring for one another; when the two are pretty much on the ‘same page’ in regards to their life philosophies and concepts of the world; when there is an unconditional regard for the other person; when openness and honesty is just a ‘given’……… and so on………
If a ‘cat’ is to be your companion, that friendship is given unconditionally and because the two of you have just automatically ‘jelled’.
It is a naturally born relationship where words aren’t always necessary for reassurance of the existance of a natural and genuine bond.
As we talked about, the other week, we are both very cat-like 🙂
Kind regards,
Louise Page 🙂
