How Coles and Woolworths use poker machines to gamble with lives
Coles and Woolworths are Australia’s largest poker machine merchants, reaping mega profits from the misery of Australians whilst posing as ‘family friendly’ supermarkets. The wolf has already eaten grandma. As people commit suicide out of shame, debt and addiction, are you going to be a puppet for Coles and Woolworths, reinforcing their feigned image as ‘family friendly’ or will you vote with your wallet? Maxi, Aldi, IGA, Foodworks… there are so many other supermarkets to go to as you wait for Coles and Woolworths to realise the public just ain’t buying their facade.
The reality of these supermarkets is more like this:

I feel affronted when I see TV ads purporting “family friendly” shopping in Westfamers and Woolworths supermarkets, when I know how they gouge money from the the most vulnerable via gambling on the insidious poker machines. We had more choice in our small city until 6 months ago when The large IGA store closed citing it could no longer compete with the big supermarkets. We still retain a few Independent grocers but for how long? Unfortunately there is no ALDI in SA as yet but ever hopeful they will come soon to give us a viable choice. When visiting family in Victoria I always stock up at Aldi and so do so many other families I know. We need viable competition as Dick Smith is highlighting constantly, even when the media tries to prevent him. Anneliisa.
