Death and After Life
by Donna Williams

After Life
between dreams we just sleep,
like a spaceman floating
thoughtless in space.

you can’t be lost,
you have invested in so many souls,
those investments are pieces of you, of your soul,
already planted like seeds within others,
every other person who took those seeds
and grew differently because of them

you may lose the body,
but all you lose is possession of consciousness
for what our soul was, its essence,
lives on in all we’ve touched.

the power of nostalgia following death,
what the dead person leaves behind
is much more powerful a presence
than when they were just on a phone with them

We don’t have to OWN that consciousness
it is the ultimate freedom,
setting free, letting go
to allow everyone else to carry our soul
without effort

If the one you loved were in another room,
are they still there with you somehow, within YOUR soul?
but are they currently aware of that
as they sleep or read in another room?
maybe, maybe not.
does it matter?
no.

what matters is the trust
that we have truly lived our life
in which we continually invested
pieces of our soul in others.

and they will in turn invest some of that
into others we may never live to even meet
yet still our essence will ‘be there’.
