Autism, meltdowns and the presumption of ‘severe pain’

December15

To Live To Dream by Donna Williams Wondering in your screaming functionally non verbal child is in severe pain? Remember that a simple blood test will rule out pain if the inflammatory markers are low… it is simply fact, pain=inflammation, except in non-inflammatory peripheral neuropathy – neuropathic pain associated with nerve damage.

Remember too that those with extreme pain tolerance can still have severe emotional dysregulation meaning they can suddenly lose it as if they are being murdered/in extreme pain. This can be as simple as them experiencing troubling thoughts/feelings, when experiencing intolerable sense of Exposure/Invasion in acute Exposure Anxiety, when losing monopolisation/control over their carer in Dependent Personality Disorder or immense sense of injustice or loss of privilege in some personality disorders or just emotional hypersensitivity in erratic personality disorders like Borderline Personality Disorder.
